Frosted is a heart-wrenching romance
about a pirate and an ice-cold lady who seem to have hated each other for
years, inspired by winter-themed fairytales like The Snow Queen and The
Steadfast Tin Soldier. It is set in a witty, glittering Regency world made up
of a little bit of Jane Austen, a little bit of Georgette Heyer, and a lot of a
modern heart yearning for romance, passion and a tall gentleman with a
smoldering gaze. This is a broken tale of beauty, dark secrets and love lost.
My opinion
When I first saw the cover of Frosted, I immediately felt 'something' and a lot of expectations were awakened. After I read the synopsis I couldn’t help but to expect a really adictive romance👀. Although I admit that the book wasn't what I first thought, I can afirm and start this review by saying that, anyway, it was a really incredible book. Being a great fan of Jane Austen myself, and a regency novel fan too, Frosted came to me as a book that yes or yes I had to love; also being a hopeless romantic makes me not think otherwise. So, yes, I highly recommend it💘.
M. C. Frank tells us a story about two really different characters with a past in common that unites them in a special way. First we have Captain Timothee Vaughn, a man who is about to get unhappily married and that is well known by everyone as a really good and respectful pirate🚢. On the other side we have Stella DeWinter, a woman that everyone thinks is as cold as the ice and that, also, has a secret. Both of them when they were younger, fell for each other and had a really cute romance that ended in a big and sad confusion. But this time, destiny won't let them separate again💞.
He lied to himself. He told himself that he didn´t care, and he said it so many times that he no longer knew where the lie ended and the truth began.
M. C. Frank's writing style is exquisite. I think that just few writers can, really, have an 'atmosphere' in their writing, and she succeeds😍. In Frosted, the words led us to another time, they drown us in a story that reminds me of Jane Austen novels. Personally, this book reminds me a lot of Persuasion; the thing between Stella and Tim, being ’ex-boyfriends', and then having a reunion in the present, in which he is a Captain and they now have a marked indifference is awesome.
A strong point of the book are the settings. While I was reading it I felt as I was in a frosted place, with snow and cold😱. Also, we have big emotions throughout the book: we could perceive the greatest and genuine happiness and then we could feel the most painful and burning despair😭. The author gave us the point of view of the two principal characters and I think that it makes me love more the both of them, because I truly connected with both.
It's not swimming, it's faith, he tought. This is what it means to have faith. You go deeper than your feet can wander. And it feels like drowning, except you swim.
You know that I am a hungry reader for good characters👌, so I could say that I really connected with all the ones in Frosted. Stella was a really tough character, she was really clever, sweet and capable. Although I loved more the Stella from the past (the happy and naive Stella) I truly admire her character in the present💖. Also some days ago I was searching for a book with disability rep, and we have it in her character. Stella is blind, and the author makes us see her overcoming her obstacles; she makes us feel that any situation shouldn’t make us feel paralyzed and that we have to fight and carry on.
Captain Vaughn made me fall in love. He is A GORGEOUS MAN. Truth is that I loved him, he was so pasional, and sweet (even in the beginning when we have this haughty perspective about him) and he always got carried away by his emotions. I like that, exactly, Timothee was a weeping person, he just showed all of his emotions and weaknesses and fears, and he is just, ugh… He is a character that I really wanted to hug😞. Also, through him we get some of the hatred that people show (based on prejudice) on other people just by knowing their origin, or their parents. He was judged immediately and at the beginning he showed us the rage and the pain that all of this caused. This kind of things happened and continue to happen now so its a great reminder to know and to not forget.
''Timothée'' He said it with the French pronunciation, a long, accented 'e' at the end, his tongue rolling deliciously over the syllables.
Darn it, even his name was perfection
''Why would you hate a name like that'' she asked. ''It means 'gift from God' doesn't it Timothée?''
The romance is the main aspect of the book of course👫, and my favorite part was the past. I love the story about how Tim and Stella met and fell in love. I just read it and feel a lot of happy feelings. I love heart-warming stories. The present was less happy, it was more difficult and yeah, thats why I prefer the past, because I like perfect things. I'd love to have more about the piracy thing in the book but, anyway, the book was great: I read them and got to see their love grow and be restored.
''Tell me'' Stella said ''There are horrible things going on in the world, and how will anyone ever do anything about them if no one knows''
Finally I can say that Frosted is a book for the ones who enjoy the sweet romances, the kind that melt even the coldest hearts. This is the novel that tell us about the reunion, about what has been changed and what is going to come: the infinite possibilities in the future. It tell us about the fears, the insecurities and the things we lost when we try so hard to protect ourselves. M. C. Frank writes a story that surely will make you get drowned in a sea of feelings and emotions💙.
He lied to himself. He told himself that he didn´t care, and he said it so many times that he no longer knew where the lie ended and the truth began.
It's not swimming, it's faith, he tought. This is what it means to have faith. You go deeper than your feet can wander. And it feels like drowning, except you swim.
''Tell me'' Stella said ''There are horrible things going on in the world, and how will anyone ever do anything about them if no one knows''

About M.C. Frank
M.C. Frank (writer, reader, designer, physicist
and teacher, to name a few) has been living in a world of stories ever since
she can remember (that's before she knew how to write). She started writing them
down when she could no longer stand the characters in her head screaming at her
to give them life, and while those first scribblings weren't exactly good (nor
were they books, although she insisted on calling them that), they were enough
for her to discover her passion in life.
She got her university degree in physics a few
years ago (yes, she's like Sheldon, only a bit crazier!) and is now free to
pursue her love of reading and writing, as well her free-lance job as
editor-in-chief. She lives with her 'dude' in a home filled with candles,
laptops and notebooks, where she rearranges her overflowing bookshelves every
time she feels stressed.
Which is often, since (as you might have
noticed) she doesn't pick the easiest subjects for her novels.
